Steve Berkowitz
Acclaimed Sports Reporter for USA Today
November 1, 2023
The Better Sports Club warmly welcomed one of our own members, Steve Berkowitz, for our last Speaker Dinner of 2023.
Steve joined us for the evening to talk about college football, including his coaches' salary database and the changing landscape in college athletics. Steve is a reporter with the USA Today Sports’ enterprise and investigations group. Much of his work centers around helping to construct, maintain and analyze annual databases of college athletics compensation, finances and football guarantee-game payments. In addition, he covers a variety of NCAA, federal and state legal and legislative issues, including Title IX, and he occasionally edits stories. He has been with USA Today since June 2000, and spent his first eight years there as a senior assignment editor for sports projects. Previously, he was with The Washington Post, where he began as a part-time news aide and, over a 14-year span, worked as a copy editor, reporter, night editor and assistant sports editor. His reporting beats included the University of Maryland, Georgetown men’s basketball, national college sports, the Baltimore Orioles and the 1994 men’s World Cup soccer tournament. It was a great evening listening to the many interesting stories Steve had to share and we had a great Q&A to conclude his discussion. To conclude the evening, we recognized and honored our BSC Past Presidents who were in attendance for the evening, and elected our new Officers and Directors for 2024. |
