Arlington Sports Hall of Fame Inducts BSC President Bill Murray

The long-delayed third annual Arlington Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF) Induction Dinner, postponed for a year due to the Covid pandemic, finally happened on Wednesday, October 13 at the Knights of Columbus. Better Sports Club president, Bill Murray (left), was inducted along with seven other new members. In his acceptance speech, Bill highlighted personal connections with the other inductees, noting that Arlington is a community that also happens to have exceptional athletes.

​ASHOF 2020-2021 Hall of Fame inductees:

• Steve Buckhantz (W-L Class of 1973)—longtime Washington Wizards play-by-play announcer and DC area sports broadcaster
• Kristy Burch Bergmann (Bishop O’Connell 986): dominating softball pitcher in the 1980s at Bishop O’Connell and Miami of Ohio University
• Al Forman (posthumously) (W-L 1967): standout four-sport athlete at W-L, 25-year sports coordinator for Arlington Parks & Rec, prominent sports official
• Charles “Chuck” Harris (posthumously): member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, championship coach at Yorktown, Wakefield and O’Connell over five decades 
• Jimmy Lange (Bishop O’Connell 1994):  Welterweight and Middleweight Champion (WBC, WBU and NABU) professional boxer (career record 38-6-2)
• Jesse Meeks (posthumously): longtime Arlington gymnastics, football, track, tennis, golf and basketball coach, winning eight boys gymnastics state titles at Yorktown 
• Bill Murray (W-L 1966):  standout baseball/football athlete at W-L, co-national champ football player at Randolph-Macon, Arlington baseball coach and administrator
• Mary White: cofounder of the Arlington Women’s Soccer League, champion state and national girls coach, national Top 10 senior runner, champion Masters soccer athlete
